There are sections of this article that actually suggest some prejudice from the authors perspective, but I still believe it is worth a quick read.

Also, check out NAAFA, the National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance. It's really so foreign to experience a large group of people, an organization even, that is fully devoted to supporting those that are overweight. I want to say that it is a good thing, but the part of my brain that has been programmed over the years to respond automatically "Fat = Bad" balks at it. Perhaps anyone else that reads this and checks out the website could leave me a comment telling me how they feel about this website?

Sometimes I really worry about meeting people on line. I think that for overweight people, it's more stressful to meet people on the internet than in person... there's always that worry that, the moment you show a picture of yourself, you'll never hear from him or her again. That's happened to me before so many times. Then there are the angle pictures, which let's face it, are deceptive even if self-preserving. In person, you know right away whether or not you'll be accepted and then you can either move on with your life or become acquainted with a new friend.

That is another big reason I created this community. I know how difficult it is to always be worrying that the moment someone sees you, they'll discount you. I want to open up opportunities here for people to meet others without that fear. And I want that for myself too.
